Grace, I couldn't agree more. It's time that everyone who comes to our peaceful country learn that we have certain standards and the wearing of a face scarf that covers most of the face is not accepted. And I will not accept that people with my opinion are racists, it's because I dont trust people who cover their faces and why should I. You only have to watch the nightly news and see pictures of some radical muslims, burning flags and swaering to kill anyone who doesn't believe in Alah and I have noticed that women cheering on from the sidelines are always wearing full face burqas.

Also, as far as the wearing of the Burqa not being forced on them, that's a load of bull. We may believe that their men don't force them to wear it, but watch out Muslim lady if you don't. Muslim men will treat you like a tart and the Muslim women are even crueler. The Burqa only serves one purpose. It is a means to cover a womens body so that a strange man does not get sexually aroused. Because if they do, the women will be treated by their family so badly, they risk beatings and in some cases, stonings.

So, in Australia we fight for liberties for all peoples. We don't want the Burqa because we don't beleive you. And like Grace said, if you don't like how we live here, go back to were you came from and see how much freedom you get in your country.

I disagree.
The burqa is an insult to both men and to women.
It is a statement that men are beasts who cannot control their sexual desires, and it is a statement that women are merely sexual beings, temptresses.
The burqa also represents the imprisonment of women as objects owned by men. Emancipation of women still has to come to many Muslim countries.
In the West, none of this is acceptable.
As a woman I am offended by the inference that my face should be covered and hidden.
I therefore believe that if women want to wear it - and if they have had this tradition forced upon them since infancy, they would know nothing different - then they should remain in the countries where it is acceptable, because being hidden is not acceptable in Western society where women are the equal of men. That is the law, and it applies to everyone.
