Numerology and the Birth Number: Your Life Path Number

Many of us are intrigued by the complexity that makes up our own psyche and want to understand more about ourselves.

Numerology is a tool we can use to help find our way through life. It gives us insights into the jigsaw puzzle of our different selves, like a helpful road map, revealing more clearly our essential character and destiny.

We can add this this map to our navigation toolbox to help us work out answers to that complex and intriguing question, “Why am I here?”

The Greek mathematician and philosopher Pythagoras was one of the first scholars to explore the hidden meaning of numbers. The ancient Chaldeans, Egyptians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Hindus and Hebrews also developed their own systems of numerology.

Like astrologers, numerologists believe we are born on a certain date, hour and minute to learn important lessons and to achieve in particular ways during our lifetimes.

As part of the whole web of life, we are bathed in the vibrations from our earth and from the planets and the sun in our solar system. Numerologists believe that we attract the date and time of our birth according to the quality of these vibrations we need in each lifetime.

Even though we may wish we had another number guiding us, we have chosen certain numerological vibrations for a reason. To have a successful life, in terms of fulfilling our purpose, we need to recognize the qualities we have attracted and learn to use them positively.

Numerology works with numbers from one to nine, because all other numbers can be reduced to these. The master numbers 11 and 22 are exceptions to this rule as discussed below. In essence the numbers can be described as in this chart:

1 creation, independence
2 duality, cooperation
3 power, creativity
4 stability, reliability
5 sensuality, versatility
6 harmony, balance
7 mysticism, magic
8 material success, justice
9 broadminded, philanthropy

The numbers we choose in each incarnation help determine our personality, career choices, interests, love, friendship, abilities and many other challenges we face in each incarnation.

Birth number : Your Life Path

The birth number is a number which can’t be altered. It is found by adding the numbers from our date of birth and reducing them to a single number. For instance, if your birthdate is 21 September 1983 then your birth number is: 2+1+9+1+9+8+3 = 33. Reduce this to a single number: 3+3 = 6. So the birth number is 6.

The numbers 11 and 22 are master numbers and are not reduced. They are the higher octave of 2 and 4, and give an extra opportunity to strive for greater personal development in a lifetime.

The birth number represents the quality of the experiences that we each have chosen to help us grow and evolve during our lifetime. When you look up the qualities of your birth number you may be familiar with many of them. Our challenge is to understand and try to express the positive qualities of the birth number and to use these in conjunction with those of our destiny numbers (in next month’s edition).
