Peace and Conflict Resolution Project (PCR) – Democratic Republic of the Congo

by Caroline on May 24, 2009

The Peace and Conflict Resolution Project (PCR) was founded in 2004 in South-Kivu, which is part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo, (D.R. Congo) by Pastor Samuel Muderhwa & his wife Faida.

They were inspired to create an organisation to help children and women – the most marginalised victims of the ethnic wars raging in the region.

PCR aims to help create peace and reconciliation in the country. Peace is seen as the key to helping families who have been broken and made powerless, homeless victims of this constant conflict.

As a registered, not-for-profit organisation,  PCR also

holds a position within the Ministry of Justice & human Right in the D.R. Congo.

Samuel and Faida have recently hosted a children’s Christmas program in Bukavu sponsored by Music for Life, an African children’s choir. Over 325 children attended the program, many orphaned and from surrounding rural and poor areas.

PCR has established adult schools, psychological support and counseling, peer education and drug abuse awareness and rehabilitation, youth forums, seminars and training.  The organisation has recently gained support from the majority Congolese natives living in south Kivu area, and is now seeking other grassroots organizations to work in connection with them to gain peace.
