World Forum of Spiritual Culture was held in Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, from October 18 – 20, 2010, the Forum attracted over 500 inspiring and empowered creative change makers from more than 70 countries.
The “Peace Through Spiritual Culture” Astana Declaration is a summation of what the forum set out to achieve and where we – all of us together – can take it from here.
Organised by the Kazakh government, this Forum called on representatives – people who are inspired to be part of positive change – to streamline their efforts, to make the Spiritual Culture a priority over other values in human civilization. And they answered the call – in all colours, shapes and sizes.
Ideals of cooperation, nonviolence, and a belief in the victory of common sense and light permeated every momont of this forum. Activated by the intense landscape surrounding Astana, conference participants seemed to be riding a huge wave of serotonin, walking and talking love, peace and a better world. What inspired these highly educated and respected scientists, political leaders, educators, lawyers, writers and activists to meet together in the heart-centre of Eurasia, exploring concepts like ‘spiritual’, ‘world culture’ and ‘noosphere’ ?
The idea for the Forum began in the early 90s as leaders in various countries realised that new knowledge and attitudes were required for the development of Civilization and Culture. From this it was envisaged that a series of intercultural and international conferences would encourage global dialogue and active cooperation in working towards solutions for the current problems facing us all.
Michael Gorbachev wrote on the Forum’s site, 30 April, 2010, that, although a lot of things depend on government policy, without participation of civil society, policy can’t fix the challenges facing us all now. Many of us know this to be true. Along with the forum’s participants, we are all Creative Change Makers – practical idealists – each with a vision that we’re formulating into pragmatic action.
Noosphere Constitution: from this Forum a major initiative was birthed – the Noosphere Constitition, written by Gordina Liubov and others. Its authors are hopeful that this constitution could be the blueprint for creating a world culture that is sustainable and socially equitable for us all. It relies on each of us to do our bit – individuals, NGOs, groups and, if they get the picture, governments.

Hello Susan
The same thing happened to me at one point as I think her email box was overfull! I used the form on their website and she replied to that. The one I’ve been using most of the time to talk with her is:
astanaforum@parlam.kz.
I found the process slow but I’ve booked my ticket now and it’s all organised so hang in there. I look forward to meeting you at the Forum. I’ve sent a copy of this to your email address.
Caroline
Update: Susan made it to the conference. It was great to exchange information about why we were motivated to make such a long trek – she from Mexico and me from Australia.
Dear Friends in Trust for Peace! Dear Organizers of the Forum!
Thank you for that great opportunity to share ideas and dreams with so many activists for peace-building through the world in Astana. But I would like to make some critical points. The organizing committee has been established in Russia, Germany, Austria, and Kazakhstan, why not in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and Turkmenistan? On behalf of many Tajiks, I assume that we trust for Kazakhstan leadership. Thiugh there is one tricky point.
Our originally formed cross-road regional identity believes more in ‘me’ through ‘you’, not ‘me’ trough the pyramid of power. Thus we have to change the old and odious vertical world system onto vertical-horizontal relationship. In this case we’ll be able to create a new regional civil society as an organic part of the world civil society. From that point of view Astana is not only spiritual capital, but rather materialized capital of the dreams and ideas of almost all people of Central Asia. From here the ideas of peace and prosperity have to be radiated onto the region, as one geographical niche, Near East and the world, as a whole. During the Forum I was happy to meet the same people, like me, from all over the world: the fighters for peace through their ‘own’ culture and further on.
It’s true, that we all were united by the dreams of peace, harmony, beauty and love, but it’s also true, that still that ideal is very far from the real world. It’s true, that the physical world is not complete by itself, but it’s also true that perfection is non-endless process of civilization as a whole. We are all the parts of civilization, which is a product of the humanity as a whole. We need to share that holistic view with each other more often. Thank you for Kazakhstan for the Great Start! Long live Eurasia as a peace-bringing idea to the world of our own days!

One should try to maintain his issue the best. So you can certainly effect a lot. Trying to improve people’s living conditions is one very practical place to start.
